How it works

1

Upload your image

Drag and drop or click to upload a JPEG or PNG image. The original file size is shown immediately.

2

Set the quality level

Drag the quality slider. Lower quality = smaller file. 70–85% is typically a good balance for web images.

3

Choose output format

Select JPEG or WebP. WebP produces smaller files than JPEG at equivalent visual quality.

4

Download the compressed image

Click Compress & Download. The estimated compressed size is shown before you download.

Common use cases

Web page performance

Compress hero images and blog photos to reduce page load time — smaller images improve Core Web Vitals scores.

Email attachments

Reduce image file size to stay within email attachment limits without losing noticeable visual quality.

Social media uploads

Pre-compress images before uploading to platforms that apply their own aggressive compression on upload.

Storage optimisation

Batch-reduce image sizes in a folder to free disk space while keeping acceptable visual fidelity.

Frequently asked questions

Is this image compressor free?

Yes — completely free. Everything runs in your browser; no account, no upload to a server.

Does the tool upload my image anywhere?

No. Your image is processed entirely in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Nothing leaves your device.

What is the best quality setting for web images?

70–85% is a good starting point. At 80% JPEG, most images are indistinguishable from the original to the human eye while being 40–60% smaller.

Why is WebP smaller than JPEG?

WebP uses a more modern compression algorithm. It typically produces 25–35% smaller files than JPEG at the same perceived quality, and it's supported in all modern browsers.

Can I compress PNG images?

PNG compression is lossless so quality sliders do not apply. You can convert PNG to JPEG or WebP using this tool which will significantly reduce file size, or use our Image Converter for format-only conversion.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no hard limit but very large images (above 20 MB) may be slow to process in the browser. For best results use images under 20 MB.
