Common use cases

Verifying API image responses

APIs that return images as Base64 are hard to inspect in code. Paste the value here to see the actual image.

Debugging data URIs

Check that a CSS background-image data URI renders correctly before deploying.

Extracting embedded images

HTML documents often embed images as Base64 data URIs. Extract and download them as standalone files.

Database image preview

If your database stores image blobs as Base64, paste the value here to preview without writing code.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to include the data: prefix?

Both work. If you paste just the Base64 string without the data: prefix, enter the MIME type below and the tool will construct the full data URL.

What image formats are supported?

Any format the browser can render: PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP, SVG, ICO. The MIME type in the data URL determines the format.

Why does my image show as broken?

The Base64 string may be corrupted, truncated, or the wrong MIME type. Make sure you've copied the complete string including any = padding.

Is my data sent to a server?

No. The decoder sets the string as an <img> src attribute — the browser renders it locally. Nothing is transmitted.
