How to Calculate EMI (Loan Payment) Online for Free

An EMI (Equated Monthly Instalment) is the fixed amount you pay each month to repay a loan. Knowing your EMI before taking a loan helps you plan your budget and compare offers. This guide explains the formula and shows you how to calculate it instantly with a free browser-based tool.

The EMI Formula

EMI = P × r × (1 + r)^n
          ─────────────────────
              (1 + r)^n − 1

Where:
  P = Principal (loan amount)
  r = Monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100)
  n = Loan tenure in months

Example: ₹500,000 loan at 9% annual interest for 60 months → r = 0.09/12 = 0.0075, EMI ≈ ₹10,377/month.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Open the EMI Calculator

Navigate to the free EMI Calculator. All calculations run locally in your browser — your financial data is never transmitted.

2

Enter the loan amount

Type the principal amount you want to borrow. This is the amount before interest.

3

Set the annual interest rate

Enter the annual interest rate quoted by your lender (e.g. 8.5 for 8.5% p.a.). The calculator converts this to a monthly rate automatically.

4

Choose loan tenure

Select months or years and enter the repayment period. Longer tenure means lower EMI but more total interest paid.

5

Read your results and compare scenarios

The calculator shows your monthly EMI, total interest payable, and total repayment amount. Adjust the inputs to compare different loan scenarios before committing.

Common Use Cases

  • Home loan planning: Compare 15-year vs 20-year mortgage payments before applying
