How it works

1

Paste CSS

Paste minified, messy, or one-line CSS into the input panel.

2

Format

Click Format CSS or press Ctrl+Enter. Rules are split into lines with consistent indentation.

3

Copy or download

Copy the formatted CSS or download as a .css file.

4

Browser-only

js-beautify is bundled locally. Your CSS is never uploaded.

Common use cases

Minified framework CSS

Un-minify vendor CSS before inspecting rules or adding overrides.

Generated CSS cleanup

Sass/Less compilers and CSS-in-JS can produce inconsistently formatted output. Format before committing.

Legacy stylesheet readability

Format old single-file CSS to see rule groupings before refactoring.

Diff comparison

Format both versions of a stylesheet before running a diff to eliminate whitespace noise.

Frequently asked questions

Does this support SCSS or Less?

js-beautify handles standard CSS syntax. SCSS nesting and Less variables may work partially but dedicated SCSS/Less formatters are more reliable for those.

Does it sort CSS properties?

No — the formatter only changes whitespace and line breaks. Property order is preserved as-is.

Is my code uploaded?

No. js-beautify is bundled in /lib/ — no CDN call at runtime. Everything runs locally.

Can I format inline CSS?

Paste just the property declarations (without the selector) and format. Or use the HTML Formatter to handle inline styles in HTML files.
